September has a quiet magic to it. The warmth of summer lingers, the light softens, and everything feels just a little more golden. This wedding at Priston Mill, tucked away in the countryside just outside Bath, captured that feeling perfectly — romantic, unhurried, and full of heart.
With hair and makeup, the ceremony, reception, and evening celebrations all taking place at the same beautiful venue, the day unfolded naturally, allowing everyone to truly be present for each moment.
Morning Preparations at Priston Mill
The day began at Priston Mill with the calmest of morning preparations. One of the biggest advantages of choosing a venue like this is not having to rush between locations. Hair and makeup took place in one of the light-filled rooms onsite, giving everyone space to relax and enjoy the morning. As a photographer, this setup is ideal.
Natural light poured in through the windows, perfect for capturing those quiet moments, final touches of makeup, laughter between friends, and the anticipation building as the dress was carefully fastened. With everything happening in one place, there was a real sense of ease that set the tone for the rest of the day.
A Warm, Heartfelt Ceremony
The ceremony took place at Priston Mill with the late-summer sun streaming in. September weddings often give you the best of both worlds: warm weather without the intensity of mid-summer heat, and this day was no exception. As guests arrived and took their seats, Priston Mill felt warm and welcoming. The ceremony was heartfelt and personal, filled with emotion, laughter, and plenty of smiles. From a photographer’s point of view, Priston Mill offers beautiful angles and soft light that work perfectly for capturing genuine moments as they unfold. September light is a dream for photography — gentle and flattering — and it wrapped the ceremony in a soft glow that made every moment feel even more intimate.
Drinks, Sunshine & Mill Courtyard Moments
After the ceremony, guests spilled out into the courtyard to enjoy drinks in the sunshine. This is where Priston Mill really shines. The stone buildings, open space, and countryside backdrop create a relaxed atmosphere that’s ideal for natural, candid photography.
This part of the day is always one of my favourites with guests catching up, glasses clinking, and the newlyweds finally getting a moment to breathe and take everything in. September light adds a golden warmth to images, making this the perfect time for couple portraits without being away from guests for too long.
Relaxed Wedding Breakfast & Speeches
The wedding breakfast took place back inside the mill, where rustic charm meets elegant styling. Exposed beams, stone walls, and thoughtful décor made the space feel warm and inviting. The wedding breakfast felt warm and inviting, styled beautifully to complement the rustic charm of the space. As speeches began, the room filled with laughter and the occasional happy tear.
These moments, the reactions, the stolen glances, the hands reaching for one another are often the most meaningful photographs from the day. They’re the moments couples return to again and again and something I always focus on as a photographer. These unscripted moments are often some of the most meaningful images from the day.
Golden Hour at Priston Mill
As the day drifted towards evening, the light softened even further, and we slipped outside for golden hour portraits. September sunsets are perfect, with softer, lower light that flatters everyone and brings out the natural tones of the surrounding countryside.
Early autumn sunsets have a quiet romance to them, bathing the surrounding countryside in warm, honeyed tones.
Priston Mill offers so much beauty within a short walk, allowing us to create relaxed, romantic portraits without pulling the couple away from their guests for long.
Evening Celebrations All in One Place
One of the biggest benefits of hosting your entire wedding day at Priston Mill is how seamlessly it transitions into the evening. As night fell, the mill transformed once again — lights glowing, music filling the space, and the atmosphere shifting into celebration. With everything taking place at one venue, the energy never dipped, and guests flowed effortlessly from day into night.
From the first dance to the joyful chaos that followed, the evening was the perfect ending to a day filled with love and connection.
